Visit Romania. Explore Transylvania. Be enchanted.

Romania may not be on your list of "Things to do before you die" kind of thing. And you probably haven't heard many good words about Romania or Romanian people on the tourist trail. That may be a good thing as Romania is still largely unexplored. We still have horse drawn carts here, we still have pristine virgin forest & people still leave in parts the same way they lived 100yrs ago.

The most you probably heard about Romania is a few keywords from the history books such as the Communist Revolution in 1997, the first Gold Medal with the mark of 10 in Gymnastics for Nadia Comaneci & the famous Dracula's Castle.

But more often than not you probably saw a beautiful photo of Transylvania or  the rest of Romania that made you wonder what's it like to visit. Expect to be enchanted.

Piatria craiului view.jpg

You'll find us in a village called Pestera (the Cave)

Some call it "the village in the clouds", and we actually are. At over 1000m altitude, the landscape here is an ocean of green rolling hills overlooking the Piatra Craiului Massif (2200m). The village is part of the extended area of the Piatra Craiului National Park together with Magura village too. From Akasha there are a number of trekking trails that can lead to near by villages and even to the top of the mountain, the "OM" Peak. You can also visit Cheile Zarnestilor not too far, recognisable in the backdrop scenes of Cold Mountain, the movie.

Village Life

If you'd like to see more of Transylvania during your visit, there's plenty to see & do. Photos in the below sections are all captured by Sebastiaen.

Sighisoara (Schassburg)

The origins of Sighisoara city go back to the Roman times. Nowadays, it is a small medieval fortified city, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The whole city is practically a Museum of History. Take a walk through the town's hilly streets with their original medieval architecture, magical mix of winding cobbled alleys, steep stairways, secluded squares, towers, turrets and enchantingly preserved citadel, is like stepping back in time.

Sibiu (Hermannstadt)

Sibiu is awash in aristocratic elegance. Noble Saxon history emanates from every art nouveau facade and gold-embossed church. Renowned composers Strauss, Brahms and Liszt all played here during the 19th century. Sibiu is one of Romania's cultural and tourism capitals, attracting tourists due to its wonderful medieval charm, excellent views of the surrounding landscapes, great food, and festivals of all sorts.
