Outdoor Living Season

SPRING
This is a magical time when usually the leaves turn green a few days before our first guests arrive. It’s like after a long winter the forest gives a sigh of relief saying ‘okay, let’s play’. The days are already quite long, but the nights might get cold. The gardens are not that far, but we have an abundance of wild foods to play with, like birch sap, nettles and wild lovage, garlic also all the cabbage sprouts and the first rhubarb and asparagus. Spring is the time of rebirth and romance - a clean slate for anything to happen.

EARLY SUMMER
In June is when the gardens start to wake up and the sun really starts to warm. The days are the longest, culminating on the 21st and with midsummer. June is the time for meadows, for wild flowers and wild strawberries scattered about on our long walks in the forest. Our hiking season starts and we get active on the mountain with daily hikes, treks & guided wildlife tours.

HIGH SUMMER
July and August is peak season in Pestera, sometimes all the way into October. That’s when the weather is warm during the day and cool at night and when our gardens are really taking off and showing the abundance they offer. Obviously, the chances of getting those long, warm summer nights are also the best at that time.

Cosy Living Season

EARLY AUTUMN
For those who love getting cosy in a warm sweater around the fire. Still, the gardens are overflowing with amazing vegetables, now turning more towards the heavy, nourishing crops - and September is the time when we get the first Apples and the last of sea buckthorn berries. In Romania is grape harvest season so a lot of grape ferments, hearty vegetables. The forest starts to changes its colours, and its moods.

OCTOBER-NOVEMBER
October can be warm and delicious or it can be cold and rainy - you never know around here. Last October we it was 24 degrees and we were still holding classes outdoors. For photographers, this is the most spectacular season to visit as the landscape changes to yellow and crimson colours and the leaves very quickly start to shed. You really feel that now the season is coming to an end. It’s dark around the time dinner starts, and it can get cold at night. We meet October with lots and lots of candles, fire in the fireplace and a hot sauna. November is when sometimes we get our first glimpse of snow.

WINTER

Winter in Transylvania brings the most magical days of the entire year: The days when the forest & mountains is covered in snow and on clean sunny days it feels surreal, right out of a story book. We install you with lots of warm teas, woollen blankets, fire in the fireplace and a hot sauna. February and March are the colder days in Pestera. Snow is not a guarantee, of course, and the days are short while nights are long, but for those who want a true adventure this is it!

There is something to do

in Pestera in every season.
