Join our every Wednesday morning on a 2hr permaculture & gardening workshop at Akasha Retreat.

Our Permaculture garden is a 500sq m plot where we cultivate our leafy greens, common vegetables, herbs, salads, edible flowers. There is always something to do and it is an extremely rewarding and welcoming space. Our garden as is our home is open to everyone who wishes a closer connection with nature and we believe there is no better way to doing that than getting close to the soil, understanding how to grow our own food, understanding the symbiotic relationship between plants, bees, wildlife & humans.

These workshops are designed to foster a simple, deepening relationship with Nature with hands-on experience at soil building, composting, and planting techniques to deepen your understanding of permaculture practices. You will witness on your own what happens in the garden in every season, you will pick your own strawberry, salads, herbs or teas depending on what’s in season.

It is an interactive and hands-on activity, providing participants with practical experience while learning about permaculture principles and gardening techniques. Suitable for complete beginners with little to no experience in permaculture or gardening, but with a keen interest in sustainable living.

Why we do this?

  1. Stress Reduction: Spending time outdoors, surrounded by greenery, and engaging in physical activity like gardening has been shown to reduce stress levels. The repetitive, rhythmic motions of gardening can have a calming effect on the mind.

  1. Mindfulness and Presence: Gardening encourages individuals to be present in the moment, focusing their attention on the task at hand. This practice of mindfulness can help alleviate anxiety and promote overall well-being.

  2. Connection to Nature: Working with the soil, plants, and elements fosters a deeper connection to nature. Studies have shown that being in nature and engaging with natural environments can improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression.

  3. A positive sense of purpose. Watching seeds sprout, plants grow, and eventually harvesting the fruits of one's labor can instill a sense of accomplishment and pride. This can boost self-esteem and provide a positive sense of purpose.

  4. Physical Exercise: Gardening involves physical activity such as digging, planting, and weeding, which can contribute to overall physical health.

  5. Social Connection: Participating in a gardening workshop provides an opportunity for social interaction and connection with others, building relationships and a sense of community.

  6. Learning and Growth: Engaging in new activities and learning new skills stimulates the brain and promotes cognitive health.

Takeaways: Participants will leave with a basic permaculture understanding of starter seeds or seedlings, composting materials, and resources for further learning. If anything it will remind you of the joy of playing with the earth, something we have lost in our busy digital worlds.
